WPI Supplementation – Know-How

whey protein isolate

It has been known for a long time that in order for the human body to function properly, we must provide it with the right amount of protein, fats, fibre and carbohydrates. Most often, however, we focus on the right amount of carbohydrates and fats and introduce protein into the diet in negligible amounts.

The role of protein in diet and training

It must not be forgotten that protein plays a key role in human development from an early age – after all, newborns feed on protein from mother’s milk from the first months of life.

So if we refuse to provide proteins in the form of dairy products, i.e. cheese, eggs, milk, etc., it is worth considering whether it is really healthy.

It is known that not all dairy products are good, because they are very often fattening or causing inflammation in the body, therefore it is also possible to absorb this valuable nutrient in the form of whey protein isolates.

What is Whey Protein?

It can be said that this is a more professional name for functional milk proteins, which are made when it is processed into cheese or yoghurt.

During this processing, a by-product is produced, i.e. the so-called whey – in other words, the liquid formed after curdling cow’s milk.

Whey proteins are considered high-quality products because, as one of the few supplements, they contain all the amino acids the body needs for development.

Types of whey protein

This type of protein is so complex that it can be divided into three types:

  1. The first are concentrates that contain the most fats and carbohydrates in their composition, and thus also lactose, which is why they are recommended mainly to people who tolerate it
  2. The second example is the previously mentioned isolates. They are the most advantageous not only in terms of price but quality. They contain a small number of fats and carbohydrates, which also means a negligible amount of lactose. Unfortunately, their taste is not as good as in the case of concentrates, but they are digested faster and more easily absorbed into the body.
  3. The third and least profitable type are hydrolysates. They are digested and absorbed very quickly, which makes their price incomparably higher than the other two. Moreover, due to their enzymatic treatment, they are recommended to bodybuilders rather than to physically inactive people.

Characteristics of whey protein isolates

It goes without saying that the best of the above types of whey protein are isolates. Not only are they absorbed quickly, but they are also cost-effective. What else is this variety characterized by?

WPI contains large amounts of sulfur amino acids, lysine or tryptophan. As a result, they are indispensable for athletes and people undergoing rehabilitation, because they provide the best muscle regeneration, regardless of whether you eat them before or after training.

Isolates are very soluble, thanks to which their ability to bind water significantly accelerates the process of protein preparation for consumption (2 g of protein per 1 kg of body weight per day).

Due to their gelling properties, whey protein isolates can be a good addition to meals, e.g. cakes, cocktails or porridge. That is why it is so often heard that they are a weight loss aid because, in addition to accelerating the fat burning process, they also provide a feeling of fullness.

Due to their biological activity, they ensure a high immune barrier of the body, and also lower blood pressure and have a bactericidal effect.

Who are whey protein isolates intended for?

It cannot be denied that this type of protein is most often used by athletes who want to quickly get rid of body fat and build muscle mass.

Whey protein isolate also allows for faster regeneration of the body, and it is also recommended to use after various injuries.

However, doing some physical activity is not a determinant of the use of isolates. They are also recommended for people who are underweight or who simply care about a healthy diet. In addition, we hear more and more about the use of protein in the prevention of tooth decay or in the treatment of dry mouth.

As you can see, whey protein has a lot of properties that have a positive effect on the body. although many people refuse to provide protein, it cannot be denied that they are a good option to take care of the strength and immunity of your body, regardless of whether you play sports or not.
